Rising Music Culture

Write for us

We welcome pitches from writers who can make a music-culture subject engaging and clear for general readers. Ideas may explore scenes, genres, fandom, listening or technology, with a distinct question at their centre.

What makes a strong pitch

A strong proposal identifies its subject, explains the central question and shows why the answer matters to readers. Include the main points you would cover, the kind of material the piece would draw on and why you are suited to write it. A narrow, well-framed idea is usually more useful than a broad survey of everything about a subject.

The writing we seek

We value original explanations, comparisons, histories and close explorations of music culture. Write in a clear voice, define specialist language and avoid treating a scene or group as though everyone within it thinks alike. We do not accept pitches that rely on unsupported claims or simply repackage promotional material.

Send a proposal

Use the Contact page to send your pitch, including a working title, a short outline and any relevant context about your approach. Please send a proposal rather than a finished article unless we have requested one. We cannot promise to accept or respond to every submission.
